When Is The Right Time To Build A New Church?

A church is a pillar of a local community, often established at the same time the town or village is, which means that the majority of church building projects focus on making the most of existing churches and historic buildings.

This can extend from refurbishment to renovation, with some degree of reconstruction necessary in the event of major structural damage, as well as project work that revolves around revitalising parishes.

However, there are cases when an entirely new church will be planted and constructed, and whilst the
decision to do so will be based on the needs of a particular denomination, here are some common reasons why an entirely new church is needed.

A New Church For A New Town

A common reason for a new church building is the development of an entirely new community such as a planned new town.

Alongside thousands of homes, community centres are needed for a new town to succeed, and one of these will be a centre of faith to serve a new congregation that has relocated from elsewhere in the country.

In this regard, community outreach is an essential part of the process, to gauge the type of church building required, how much space is needed and where there is scope to expand.

Where The Social Impact Is Most Prominent

Churches are essential parts of the community, providing a social, cultural and moral impact on not only the people for whom they serve but also throughout the rest of the community.

They are places that will address the needs of the local community, whether those needs are physical, emotional or spiritual, and serve as a sanctuary for people who need them the most, irrespective of their faith.

Ultimately, the good that the church will provide will be a critical factor in the decision to open a new building in a new community.
